MAKTRAK has arrived. Here's what you need to know...

EDIT: MAKTRAK has been released! Read our release blog

If the rumours are to be believed, the MAKTRAK from Makita is finally here. Well nearly. And maybe only in the USA for now. But Acme Tools have, maybe inadvertently, released some hot-off-the-press information following all the recent speculation. And it's getting people very excited. The price, on the other hand, is looking like a bit of a surprise

What we know through the Acme leak

So far their Makita MAKTRAK™ "Next generation in modular storage" large wheeled case looks to be just as we expected. On the face of it, it looks pretty comparable with the Milwaukee version.

"The MAKTRAK™ Rolling Tool Chest (T-90009) is a modular storage solution to transport, access, store and organize job site equipment, with a horizontal design for maximum accessibility and to fit long tools. It has a holding capacity of 5,000 cu.in. and up to 250 lbs. The Rolling Tool Chest features a premium handle with Gecko Grips™ for easy truck/van loading and unloading, and 9” All-Terrain wheels for jobsite use.

The horizontal design fits under a truck bed cover for ease of transport. It’s equipped with large glove-friendly latches for easy access, and the dual hinged removable lid allows access from both sides. The T-90009 is constructed of impact-resistant copolymer to withstand the toughest jobsite conditions. The included storage tray is designed to be a cordless charging solution, with dedicated space for a charger and batteries (charger and batteries sold separately). The MAKTRAK™ System is designed, engineered and made in the U.S.A. with global materials, and built on four core functions: Transportation, Access, Storage and Organization. Each function is backed by unique design and engineering that makes MAKTRAK™ the most advanced system on the market."

So big claims so far! While the product is still showing as "out of stock" rumours indicate that it could be available to buy from as early as tomorrow.

Makita MAKTRAK pricing

Here's the most interesting part, the cost. Right now, if Acme pricing is to be believed, their MAKTRAK bundle at $429 is coming in at $110 dollars over the price of the comparable stack from Milwaukee ($319). Important to note though that their Packout stack is combined with their Low Handle Rolling Toolbox (48-22-8427) rather than the Milwaukee Packout Rolling Tool Chest which. Which would have been the closest product to the MAKTRAK Rolling Tool Chest (T-90009). So we aren't really comparing apples-with-apples in terms of pricing right now.

Once more retailers bring the range "officially" to market we'll be better able to get a handle on it's price point and position in the marketplace.

Needless to say we'll be shopping for our own MAKTRAK system as soon as they're available to here in the UK. Shortly after we'll of course be adding MAKTRAK foam inserts to the Makita range we already stock. We'll of course report back our thoughts on it in due course.
