If you have a Snap-on toolbox and want to take your organisation to the next level, check this out. Here’s our take on the perfect Snap-on toolbox layout. But of course you can customise this to suit your own individual needs.

The Perfect Snap-On Toolbox Organiser

Organising a toolbox has historically never been an easy job. But if you think like us and enjoy the benefits that being organised can bring, it’s still quite an enjoyable and fulfilling process. However getting the initial job done has never been easier since we introduced our Festool toolbox organiser. So just how do you keep it organised once it’s done…?

Take for example this 40″ Snap-On Roll Cab and Top Chest. Whether you have an EPIQ, KRL or Classic Snap-On toolbox, keeping it organised could be a nightmare. But not any more.

In this video we took an already well organised toolbox, and stepped it up to another level. We removed all of the moulded trays and makeshift foam packaging and replaced it with cut to size Shadow Foam inserts. Now this was done using our old, now discontinued, Shadow Foam Original grade of foam. But you could just as easily (or even more easily!) achieve this with our current Shadow Foam product.

As the drawers were already categorised, with a rough idea of layout in each, cutting the tools into the Shadow Foam was all it took to get this box looking perfect.

How long does it take to cut the Shadow Foam?

This box took approximately 20 hours to complete for the whole thing, including the top section. Therefore averaging just under two hours per drawer. Factor in the greater ease of use of the newer Shadow Foam grade versus this old one and you could probably shave off a good chunk more time from that.

You should also consider that timing can also vary depending on the contents too. A socket drawer takes far longer than a plier drawer due to the high volume of items in the socket drawer.

If speed is important to you, then a top tip to speed up making storage for a socket drawer however, is to cut the sockets into the foam on rails. This means you are cutting one shape instead of multiple and allows you to take a complete set of sockets out when required for a job.

How much did the Shadow Foam Original cost for this box?

The dimensions for this box were as follows;

The Top Section – 475mm x 1010mm (1 of)

Top Right Side Drawers – 445mm x 545mm (4 of)

Top Left Side Drawers – 445mm x 285mm (4 of)

Bottom Drawer Dimensions – 445mm x 875mm x 30mm (7 of)

There would be two ways to order foam for this toolbox, Shadow Foam Medium Sheets that you then cut down to size, or order them ready to drop into the drawers with Custom Sized foam.

We cut down sheets ourselves from larger sheets for this project, and the total cost for the whole project with the old grade of Shadow Foam original came in at £215.91 + VAT for all 16 drawers in the roll cab.
