Toolbox with a secret compartment

You must have seen this… it’s the one with the secret compartment. The one with 1.8m Instagram views? To learn all about it…. read on!

What better way to end a day in the workshop than with a nice tot of your favourite whisky? Making a drawer like this is a surefire way to wind down at the end of a hard days graft. If you want to make your own toolbox exactly like this one, then no need to look further – we’ve created an easy to follow tutorial – How to Cut Shadow Foam.

What inspired the secret compartment tool drawer

We were inspired to do this looking at the depth of our deep drawers in our Clarke tool chest. Even once we had our tools cut into foam within the drawer there was heaps of space left. We didn’t want that going to waste! And so the secret compartment idea was born.

We created a second layer of foam, this time to house our selection of small bottles of whisky and that sat neatly in the bottom of the drawer. Then we affixed a sheet to the reverse of our tool insert and a pair of handles so we could remove and replace the top layer nice and easily. Our Shadow Foam is a one-of-a-kind product. It allows for even the most inexperienced DIYers to easily get the hang of it, making the perfect cut out for their tools or items. It also comes in different size, depth and colour options! Perfect for all toolbox fanatics.

This secret compartment project was done using our old, now discontinued Shadow Foam Original. But you could do this yourself even more easily with the new Shadow Foam.

As you can see Shadow Foam is so versatile it can be used for literally anything. It’s not only for tool drawers and secret compartments! We have customers using their Shadow Foam for all sorts of projects and orginisational or display projects. See what other people have used their Shadow Foam for here.

Check out the video to see how we made it and get a closer look at it, and if you want to give Shadow Foam a try for yourself you can up a sample
