An honest DeWALT DXL review of features - Shadow Foam

Una revisión honesta de las características de DeWALT DXL

If you're considering this system you'll be looking for a totally transparent and honest DeWALT DXL review. You should know, we buy these systems ourselves. Therefore no one is paying us to give our opinion on their systems. We have a lot of tool storage because of the nature of our work. So we're well placed to offer you a full overview and you can be sure we'll be impartial.

DeWALT DXL review of the range

The available modules are presently pretty limited. This may or may not change in future, But right now there's a dolly or trolly which you can use to make the system portable. Plus a handy worktop that gives you real mobile workstation functionality.

Sitting between the two, in whatever configuration you need, are the drawers. The biggest is a single drawer system (we have two of them). And the smallest is a 2-drawer unit. That said, even the shallow drawers are sizeable.

What features does the DXL offer?

Here are what Jona identified as his top 5 features:

5. Compatability

Simple but perfectly executed, the designers have made sure that this DLX system can compliment all their other systems which precede it. So obviously it's compatible with the latest ToughSystem 2.0, but also the OG ToughSystem too.

What's more though is that, via a small adapter plate, you can use this with the TSTAK system too. This then of course opens up the use of the DXL to people with Stanley, Facom and Craftsman VersaStak systems too.

4. Heavy duty

The biggest and most obvious feature of this system is, as the name suggests, size. But also, as you'd expect from a brand like DeWALT, the quality feels really good. It's designed to be a heavy-duty solution, and that's what you get.

The individual modules click to lock together an release as easily as you've already come to love in the ToughSystem range, Plus, as you'd expect, the drawers lock into the closed position to prevent accidental opening whilst in transit.

They also have a handy locking bar feature so you can add a padlock to keep your tools secure if leaving unattended on site.

The 6" wheels seem pretty rugged so should be able to tackle most site terrain. Plus the 360 degree castors on all 3 wheels flows easily and offers good manouverability. The fact that all four wheels can lock and release separately is good too.

3. Connectability

We mentioned earlier the great compatibility benefits of this, but actually it goes much further than that. Every consideration has been made to ensure anyone, whatever DeWALT case they have, can use this system. Even the half box and organiser can fit on the DXL thanks to the careful design of the catches.

Moreover you can even take the trays from the ToughSystem 2.0 and use them in the drawers as the shallow trays are designed to sit perfectly two abreast in the drawers. Very clever planning, brilliantly drawing all their previous ranges together and really connecting the dots allowing them to be used with this system.

2. Attention to detail

As mentioned in the previous points, this is evidenced throughout the DXL. Even tiny details like the way the steel side supports tell you the weight loading and the cup holders pull up for during use and stow away for when being transported. These small details combine to give what Jona describes as "One of my favourite toolboxes ever. It's got a lot going for it".

1. Size of the drawers

And we mean both the deep and the shallow drawers here - they're huge. But mainly the reason this feature makes the top of the list, is that it's all usable space. The drawers pull right out, meaning there's virtually no dead space at the back. Really cleverly designed with the user in mind.
